Collaborative Projects
Film Optics is open to receiving proposals relating to work within collaborative projects, either as part of academic/industrial projects, or multi-partner projects.
We provide consultancy on the manufacturing of specialist optical films through UV casting, carrying out lab scale trials through to small scale proof of concept manufacturing and onto volume manufacturing. We manufacture our UV curable resins ourselves and can tailor their properties to suit the client's requirements. We can also source innovative film substrates. We have been involved in a wide variety of projects from specialist films for solar panels, to daylighting solutions, bespoke films for display and virtual reality applications, along with films for security applications.
PVSITES - Building Integrated photovoltaics (BIPV)
Since January 2016, Film Optics has been participating in the PVSITES project which is a pan-European consortium of 15 different partners - linking academia, SME's and larger corporations.
Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is currently an expansive market. One of its main drivers is the increasingly demanding legislation related to energy performance in buildings.
Renewable energy technologies, and in particular the integration of photovoltaic systems in the building environment offer many possibilities to play a major role within the Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) scenario.
However, BIPV technology still needs to overcome some market barriers, mainly related to the flexibility in design and aesthetics considerations, lack of tools integrating PV and building performance, demonstration of long-term reliability of the technology, compliance with legal legislation, smart interaction with the grid and cost-effectiveness.
In this context, the main objective of PVSITES project is to drive BIPV technology to a large market deployment by demonstrating an ambitious portfolio of building integrated solar technologies and systems, giving a forceful, reliable answer to the market requirements identified by the industrial members of the consortium in their day-to-day activity.
