Lenticular films for Printing

Film Optics also offers a range of standard lenticular films or sheets suitable for medium and large format printers using laser, ink-jet or offset printers. These can be used to make both 3D displays and flip animations. We offer small minimium quantities (not the 1 pallet minimum that you find with some distributors) and can also offer a service including image conversion for lenticular, right through to delivering the finished printed article. Contact us for more details.

What is the difference between 3D and flip films?

Flip films have a wider viewing angle which means that more images can be interlaced to produce the perception of movement. 3D films have a narrower viewing angle, and are largely viewed from head-on with only a small movement of the viewer causing a shift in perceived depth.

How are the films made?

UV embossing is used to produce the highest quality films. A base film of amorphous polyester (APET) is coated with a liquid resin which is passed around a cylindrical mould into which are cut the profiles of the lenses. As the film passes round this cylinder UV light is applied which causes the resin to harden and cure crystal clear. The advantages of this production method in comparison to other manufacturers who produce film by extrusion is that there is very little wear and stress imparted onto the tooling which results in consistently high quality films - batch after batch.

Customised Lenticular films

Film Optics can also provide lenticular films which are tailor made to your requirements. We have made lenticular films of 400lpi for a packaging application, lenticular films for security customers along with modified lenticular films for autmotive customers. There is no practical maximum limit on the number of lenses per inch (lpi).
